“Food in Week Five”

This blog is talking about ice-cream, which most people would like for dessert, especially children. Nowadays, most of the food could be made with non-dairy, including ice-cream. It is not only low in calories but also easy to make at home. I would like to introduce what it is, how you make it at home easily, the history of ice-cream and what other things that you can add with it.

 

What is ice-cream?

  • Is a sweetened frozen food
  • Made from dairy milk or cream, add sugar or an alternative
  • A smooth, semi-solid foam that is solid at very low temperatures (below 2°C or 35 °F). 
  • Eaten as a snack or dessert

 

The history of ice-cream:

  • There are many different histories about ice-cream 
    • In Iran, it began around 500BC, the Persians invented a special chilled food, made of rose water and vermicelli which was served to royalty. The ice was mixed with fruits, saffron, and other flavors.
    • In China, it began around 200BC, a frozen mixture of milk and rice.
    • In Europe, it began in 1563, there was an ice-cream recipe made by Catherine de’ Medici. Take Tin Ice-Pots, fill them with any Sort of Cream you like, either plain or sweetened or Fruit in it; shut your Pots very close; to six Pots you must allow eighteen or twenty Pound of Ice, breaking the Ice very small; there will be some great Pieces, which lay at the Bottom and Top. 

How do you make it easily at home?

  • First, prepare a box of ice, then put 100ml milk in the sealed bag, after that put the sealed bag in the icebox and add salt on the top of the ice. Close the icebox and shake it to 20 minutes to 30 minutes, then become an ice-cream.
  • Or people could do another way which is easier and do not waste your energy. Put the fruit flavor you like in the blender, for example, add 200g strawberry, after mix it well, you put it on the container and put it to the fridge 30 to 50 minutes, then become an ice-cream.

What other things you can add with it?

  • I would like to recommend chocolate chips or cookies on the top, which make you have a delicate texture and not boring.
  • Or filled this ice cream with chunks of brownies, bits of cookie dough, pieces of oatmeal cookies, and swirls of salted caramel sauce, which you can taste sweet and salty at the same time. Some people, especially teenagers, easily get tired of one thing, it might be good to add more toppings on their ice-creams. 
  • People who are on dieting can add warm chocolate sauce or berry sauce, which is simple and not too many calories.
