What is Lemon meringue pie?

It is a pie made with lemon filling topped with meringue



  • Pie crust
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 cup of Sugar
  • 2 Lemons
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 3 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 ½ cups of water
  • butter

Instructions for Filling

  1. Add ½ cup of sugar to a saucepan
  2. Add flour, cornstarch, and salt to the saucepan
  3. Then add lemon juice and water
  4. Add 4 egg yolks and a tablespoon of butter
  5. Add ½ cup of extra sugar
  6. Boil than cook till the mixture is thick
  7. Put it in pie crust


Instructions for meringue

  1. Add 4 egg whites and sprinkle sugar
  2. Then whip till eggs are foamy and stiff peaks form
  3. Spread over lemon filling

Then bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes until meringue is turning brown

Lemon pies can be traced back to the ancient Greeks

The meringue part of the pie was added to the pie by an American pastry chef in late 1700s in Philadelphia

The meringue was created in the 17th centaury
