Where did at least one of it’s parts originate from?

Cream cheese

-Dates back to 1583 in England. Cream cheese was not discovered by other countries until 1651. 

-William Lawrence is well known for cream cheese because he is the inventor. He was trying to recreate a French cheese and accidentally invented cream cheese.  

-Lawrence started the mass production it around the year 1870 in New York.

Historical Significance?

-A very successful commercial item. Had a long shelf life compared to other types of cheese. 

-This marketing scheme made by the Alvah Reynolds and was pitched to Lawrence became the iconic brand, Philadelphia Cream Cheese. 

-In 1903, Kraft Cheese Company bought the company it from Lawrence.

-Philadelphia Cream Cheese is still known as the most well known cheese brands in the world. 

-People call this an American tale even though it was not started in America. Demonstrates how foods that tie in with certain places did not originate from there. 

-Was first considered as a delicacy and was served in fancy restaurants in New York City. Many dairy farmers competed and kept going up. In 1889, Prices ranged from 13 cents to 30 cents a pound a rose to even 40 cents a pound in 1909. 1920’s price drops. 

-Jewish community loved it and became an iconic Jewish food.
