What is Tofu?

Tofu, also called bean curd. It is a very healthy food made by soybean, white bean, and green bean. Tofu can be made in different ways such as soft tofu and hard tofu. Different types of tofu can also create many dishes across countries.

History of Tofu:

The tofu was created by Liu An in the Han dynasty around 164 BCE. It was not a famous food at the time, until later at the Song Dynasty become popular and exchange to Korea through rest of the world. Japan was introduced tofu by the late 8 century around Nara period. This new food became popular in Japan. The earliest recipe book that can be found in Japan was Tofu Hyakuchin, published by Sodani Gakusen during Edo period. This recipe book recorded 100 recipes about how to prepare Tofu.

How does it make? (Traditional way)

  1. Wash soybean.
  2. Grid the soybean into soy milk.
  3. Using a special bag to separate beans and water.
  4. Cooking in the pot.
  5. Put into the tofu model and use the heavy rock on top to dry it.
