Uni (also, Sea Urchin)

Their name came from a Greek word, echinodermata which translates to spiny skin.

Came from ocean floors and can thrive in hot and cold environments.

Some of their fossils date from 450 million year ago.

 

Historical Significance?

The edible part of the sea urchin is the interior, in specific, the gonads.

They are served mostly raw and are considered a delicacy.

When consumed, gives a response similar to the effects of cannabis because they both same the similar chemicals.

Has a good health benefit, a very good source of protein, and also aphrodisiac.

Gave lots of jobs to women who are known as “sea women,” and this allowed them more financial stability with their family.
